Austin Kordic, MD, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and sees patients at the Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center in Rancho Mirage.

Dr. Kordic completed his undergraduate studies in psychobiology at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and earned his medical degree at St. George's University. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., followed by a fellowship in Hematology/Medical Oncology at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte. Dr. Kordic has clinical interests in genitourinary cancers, breast cancer and malignant hematology, with a research focus on chemo-immunotherapy outcomes in triple-negative breast cancer. He also enjoys the challenge of treating a wide range of cancers.

Dr. Kordic' s path to medicine was shaped by his grandmother, a nurse, and by an uncle whose lymphoma was cured but who was left with severe long-term complications from treatment. During his medical school rotations, he attended tumor board meetings and quickly became captivated by hematology and medical oncology. "There are always new medical developments and treatments in oncology, which I appreciate," he says. "I wanted a specialty that would allow me to utilize cutting-edge therapies while remaining involved in longitudinal patient care," says Dr. Kordic.

Dr. Kordic understands that he often meets patients during the most difficult days of their lives, and he is committed to knowing each of them as a person, recognizing that the physician-patient relationship extends well beyond cancer care. "While treating a patient's disease is the priority, I strive to understand my patient's lifestyle, including their interests, desires and goals, in order to treat the whole patient and not just their diagnosis," he says. "Cancer is only part of a patient's life, and knowing my patients and their families helps me offer the best possible treatment."

Outside of medicine, Dr. Kordic is a devoted husband and father to two energetic young boys, as well as an avid traveler and sports enthusiast.
