Jordan Weisman, PsyD
Specialties
- Clinical Psychology
From an early age, Jordan knew he would be some sort of therapist. During his time as an undergraduate at the University of California San Diego, he studied psychology and considered becoming a marriage and family therapist, but chose instead to continue his education and pursue a doctorate in philosophy. “I was fortunate to attend a graduate school with a heavy focus on clinical acumen where I accrued thousands of hours with patients. We learned how to be great clinicians.”
Dr. Weisman sees a wide variety of patients with diagnoses, which include depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and substance use disorders. He initially focuses on building a solid, trusting relationship with his patients. “No amount of technique or intervention will mean anything unless my patients trust me and believe that I have their best interest in mind,” states Dr. Weisman.
Dr. Weisman generally uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) informed approach, with a heavy emphasis on the working relationship, unconditional positive regard, and action-oriented interventions to assist the patient in making positive change in their lives. “CBT is an approach for patients to help themselves identify dysfunctional thought patterns and their effect on emotional states. We then utilize the patient’s natural strengths to put into action positive change in their lives,” says Dr. Weisman.
