Specialties
- Psychiatry
Rebecca Ott, DNP, RN, PMHNP-BC, is Board Certified by both the California Board of Registered Nurses and the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Shet attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center, receiving several degrees in nursing including: Bachelors of Science, Masters of Science and Doctoral of Nursing Practice specializing in psychiatric mental health.
Rebecca began her higher education in pharmacy school and, after two years, decided that it was not the right career path for her. She discovered during pharmacy school that she enjoyed working with nurses, switching her focus and enrolling in nursing school. Early in her career, she worked as a clinical nursing coordinator in a mental health facility and discovered that she had a natural compassion for mental health patients which had stimulated her to work towards obtaining her master’s in nursing in order to work as a nurse practitioner.
As a mental health nurse practitioner, Rebecca has worked with all ages (10-101 years of age) in mental health as well as many areas in her field, including: inpatient and outpatient services, geriatric, child/adolescent, chronic mental illness, emergent psychiatry both in direct patient care and in administrative roles, as well as 6.5 years’ experience working with co-occurring disorders in substance treatment.
She approaches patient care from a motivational perspective. “I want the patient to feel included in their treatment plan,” states Dr. Ott. “It is motivational to have a voice in your own care as well as consider what it is going to take to make desired change.”
