Ira Felman, MD, is Board Certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology and sees patients at the Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center in Rancho Mirage. He received his medical degree from The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed both residency and fellowship programs at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center.
While studying biochemistry in college, Dr. Felman became interested in pursuing a career as a physician. During rotations in medical school, he became interested in the subspecialty of hematology and oncology. “I felt strongly that oncology was the specialty where I could make the most difference in people’s lives,” recalls Dr. Felman.
“My father’s death due to lung cancer made a significant impact on how I approach patient care,” says Dr. Felman. “It became very personal. This experience helps me focus on the needs of my patients and their families. Every patient’s journey is different; in addition to treating their disease, my job is to understand a patient’s hopes and expectations and to present options to fulfill those desires. Compassion and kindness are cornerstones in my practice.”
Dr. Felman has served as a Presidential Appointee to the Clinical Practice Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and has taught as volunteer faculty at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center for residents and fellows.
