Alex R. Del Rosario, MD
Specialties
- Internal Medicine
Dr. del Rosario completed his Bachelors of Arts degree in physiology at the University of California, Berkeley before attending medical school at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. After medical school, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco.
When selecting a specialty, Dr. del Rosario explains, "I was drawn to the interaction with people during medical school, so I knew that specializing in a micro-focused, procedure- oriented medical specialty was not for me. Internal Medicine offered me the best path to a career in which I can focus on the whole person, with prevention and wellness in the forefront."
During residency in San Francisco, Dr. del Rosario witnessed the HIV/AIDS epidemic change from a life-threatening disease to a treatable illness in which patients can live long lives. "HIV/AIDS is a lifelong disease that isn't curable, but is treatable," says Dr. del Rosario. Committed to serving this unique population of patients, Dr. del Rosario is a HIV Specialist with certification from the American Academy of HIV Medicine.
"I create an environment for patients to feel free to discuss personal issues and concerns. Listening and making myself available to patients is a key component to my practice," says Dr. del Rosario.
Dr. del Rosario focuses on fitness, wellness and disease prevention not only with his patients, but personally. "Patients are more apt to follow diet and exercise recommendations when they know that their physician 'walks the talk'."
