Puri Lorena Pascual, MD, is a Board Certified in Internal Medicine and is an Eisenhower Primary Care 365 physician seeing patients at the Eisenhower George and Julia Argyros Health Center in La Quinta.
Dr. Pascual completed medical school in the Philippines and her residency program in internal medicine at Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center in Dearborn, Michigan. For the past twelve years she has worked as an inpatient hospitalist specialist at Eisenhower Health. “My experience as a hospitalist has allowed me to treat and care for patients with acute medical issues,” says Dr. Pascual. “But I now desire to have longer term relationships with patients and care for them over a course of years — which is why the Eisenhower Primary Care 365 program is a good fit for me.”
“I always wanted to be a physician and started at an early age pursuing the education I needed to become a doctor,” states Dr. Pascual. Graduating from college at age 18, she never detoured from her passion for medicine. During medical school and residency, she honed her skill of diagnostics and got great satisfaction from being able to figure out what the medical issues were for her sick patients. “Internal Medicine was just the right fit for me as far as a specialty – it’s a complex practice that deals with multiple systems and organs,” adds Dr. Pascual.
While studying for her re-certification in internal medicine, Dr. Pascual realized she was missing a whole segment of patient care. Having been focused on acute inpatient care for ten years, she wanted to refocus her practice to primary care, which affords her the opportunity to create long-term relationships with patients. “My new focus in patient care will center on how to keep patients healthy and out of the hospital.”
“As I relate to patients, I am committed to a holistic and individualized approach,” states Dr. Pascual. “I am a big believer in shared decision-making and encourage my patient to participate in creating a health plan that will work for their lifestyle. A team approach will provide the best results.”
Additionally, Dr. Pascual has been part of the training staff for the Eisenhower School of Graduate Medical Education since its inception in 2013. Being involved in training future physicians, she keeps up-to-date with recent literature and research. She uses this information to educate each patient, providing exceptional quality of care.
