Eric M. Sontz, MD

Board Certified in cardiovascular disease, Eric Sontz, MD, specializes in general cardiology and diagnostic cardiology including nuclear and invasive cardiology, echocardiography and cardiac rehabilitation. He is an expert in coronary angiography, including the radial approach, and in transesophageal echocardiography, lipids and heart attacks.

“I think the most satisfying aspect of my medical practice is my interaction with patients. I operate off of the ‘Golden Rule’ and try to empathize with people,” states Dr. Sontz. “More often than not, there is a lot more going on in patients’ lives than their heart issues.  Getting to know patients and figuring out their deleterious stresses along with adverse patterns in diet and exercise are important to getting them better.  It is very rewarding to be able to help someone get healthier.” 

After finishing medical school at New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Sontz completed internship and residency at UCLA Medical Center, and a fellowship in cardiology at the University of North Carolina.

“Like many children, I wanted to be a doctor — only with me that desire never waned,” states Dr. Sontz.  “I always had a drive to be a physician —   to help people and alleviate suffering and never strayed from that path. Since science appealed to me going on to medical school was a natural progression.”

While in medical school, Dr. Sontz was enamored with cardiology as a specialty. “The acuity and urgency that cardiology demands were exciting to me,” states Dr. Sontz.  “So many people are affected by a various array of heart diseases. It can be quite fascinating.  Also cardiology is a well-studied field and is driven by the scientific method.” Dr. Sontz remains committed to keeping up with new developments in the discipline.
