Naila Khan, MD, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and is seeing patients with Eisenhower Primary Care Concierge program in Rancho Mirage. After completing medical school, Dr. Khan earned a Master of Public Health from Columbia University in New York, New York. She then completed a residency program in Internal Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey. For the past twenty years, Dr. Khan has been a primary care physician on the east coast in New Jersey and Florida.
It was the influence of several family members who were physicians that made Dr. Khan decide to pursue medicine as a career. “I was always impressed with my relatives who were physicians and the positive impact they had on their patients,” states Dr. Khan. “Their work seemed very rewarding and fulfilling.”
While in medical school, Dr. Khan became interested in population health. That changed while she was working through her residency, where she found she was most drawn to the one-on-one interactions with patients and enjoyed the longer term relationships that primary care provided. Throughout her years of practice, Dr. Khan has taken care of patients of all ages, but she is especially drawn to geriatric care and has experience in caring for patients with chronic conditions, nursing home care and palliative care. Additionally, she enjoys providing counseling care with her patients.
With respect to her relationships with patients, Dr. Khan states, “Collaboration and education are key to a successful patient-physician relationship. I take time to understand my patient’s concerns and what their goals are – then we create a health plan together.
