“Everything begins and ends with the patient as the priority — everything else falls into place when a patient’s needs are put first,” states Dr. Fitts. “Patients come to me because they have a problem and are looking to me to help solve the problem and bring healing to their lives. Amidst the changes and challenges in our health care system, my responsibility is to work with my patients to formulate a plan they can rely on and work with to restore health and a lifestyle they desire.
Dr. Fitts always wanted to devote his life’s work to helping people. While in high school, Dr. Fitts was involved with a peer-to-peer counseling program that solidified his desire to help people in his career. Excelling in math and sciences, Dr. Fitts achieved an electrical engineering degree while in college at Duke University. “The problem-solving skills I acquired in college easily transferred to my medical training,” states Dr. Fitts. “I chose to specialize in cardiology because the heart is a complex organ, provides a broad field of practice, and allows me to make a real difference in people’s lives through problem solving.
Dr. Fitts is an outdoorsman who walks the talk. A former USTA ranked tennis player, he has transitioned to golf in more recent years. In addition he runs marathons, participates in Olympic distance triathlons and is also a PADI-certified scuba diver.
