Description

Summary

The project will assess the impact of copper-fabricated surfaces on three outcomes in the ICU: rates of healthcare-associated infections (HAI); microbial burden and HAI-related mortality. Retrospective data will be collected regarding HAIs prior to the intervention. The intervention will be phased in, and consists of installation of copper items in ICU rooms (IV poles, light switches, bedside table tops, etc.). Pre-intervention data dates are January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024. Post intervention data will be collected to assess the potential impact of copper surfaces on the rate of HAI and other outcomes. Estimated post intervention dates are February 1, 2025 to January 31, 2026.
