Commission on Cancer Accreditation

Eisenhower Health’s cancer program has once again been awarded accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC). To earn this designation, our cancer program had to meet 34 quality care standards, be evaluated through a triennial survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

More than 70 percent of patients with cancer in the United States choose to receive care from CoC-accredited programs. CoC accreditation ensures that key elements of quality cancer care are provided to each person treated within Eisenhower Health’s cancer program.

With the guidance of the Cancer Committee, the CoC accreditation program provides the framework for Eisenhower Health to improve the quality of patient care. Various cancer-related programs focus on the full spectrum of cancer care including prevention, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, life-long follow-up for recurrent disease, and end-of-life care. Patients receiving care at our facility have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, psychosocial support, a patient navigation process, and a survivorship care plan that documents the care each patient receives and seeks to improve cancer survivors’ quality of life.

Clinical trials are integral in the advancement of cancer treatment. Through our affiliation with UC San Diego's Health Cancer Network, patients can access new drugs and interventions before they are widely available. Our ability to offer national clinical trials, endorsed by the National Cancer Institute, allows our patients to receive world-class treatment right here on the Eisenhower Health campus.

Like all CoC-accredited facilities, Eisenhower Health maintains a cancer registry and contributes to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB). This nationwide oncology outcomes database is the largest clinical disease registry in the world. Data on all types of cancer are tracked and analyzed through the NCDB and used to explore trends in cancer care. Data analysis is used to create national, regional, and state benchmark reports, leading to quality improvement efforts.

Cancer patients can confidently choose to seek care locally at Eisenhower Health. We are proud to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art care close to home.
