Admissions
There is an application fee of $72 paid to AHCAS. Students currently receive a monthly stipend of $1400. This amount may vary each year. Class size is currently two to five students, which allows for one-on-one instruction.
Seven holidays and six personal days/sick days per year are standard benefits. Emergency health care is available and professional liability insurance is provided by Eisenhower Health. Personal health insurance is not provided by the medical center. Each student should obtain health insurance for the duration of the CLS/MLS training program.
Required textbooks are provided by the School of Medical Laboratory Science. Students have access to additional resources located in the School office, the Clinical Laboratory, and the Eisenhower Health Library.

- All required documents must display “Verified” in AHCAS by the deadline shown above to be considered complete. No late documents will be accepted.

**Note**: AHCAS verification takes approximately two weeks, excluding holidays and weekends. Applicants should plan on uploading all required applications, transcripts, evaluations a minimum of two (2) weeks prior to the deadline to insure your application can be verified by AHCAS prior to the deadline.
Admission Criteria
Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree and be eligible for a valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist Trainee License from the state of California. For more information, please visit the Laboratory Field Services website: cdph.ca.gov
If the degree or course-work is in excess of 7 years, the applicant may be required to successfully update the required core courses prior to the start of the program.
Minimum Course Requirements:
- Biology: Eighteen semester or equivalent quarter hours of biology, which must include Hematology, Immunology and Medical Microbiology.
- Chemistry: Sixteen semester or equivalent quarter hours of chemistry, which must include Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry. Clinical Chemistry may be taken in place of Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry.
- Mathematics: One college-level course. College algebra or higher is suggested.
- Physics: Three semester or equivalent quarter hours of physics with instruction in light and electricity.
- Graduates of a non-U.S. college or university must:
Possess a degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree in the U.S. Applicant must also provide a complete transcript evaluation, including grades, by an approved "Current Member" of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, (NACES), or “Endorsed Members" of the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). All foreign transcripts and evaluated transcripts should be sent to Eisenhower’s School of Medical Laboratory Science office. Do not send foreign evaluated transcripts to AHCAS.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status in the U.S.
- An overall grade point average of at least 2.7
- A grade point average of at least 2.7 in their sciences courses. (Consideration of a lower GPA will be at the discretion of the Program Director.)
- Ability to perform the Essential Functions (download below) various physical and behavioral capabilities that are necessary for achievement of competency.
- A pre-training health assessment and background check are required by Eisenhower Health prior to beginning the program.
- Final admission is contingent upon receipt of the California CLS Trainee License (TRL) prior to start of training
- If applicable, proof of course enrollment for courses in progress.
Admission Selection Criteria
Interviews will be scheduled with the admission committee in March. The admission committee ranks candidates based upon:
- Completion of all requirements
- Academics
- Interview performance
- Evaluations
- Laboratory work experience
- Motivation
- Communication skills
- Improvement of GPA within the last two years
