the impact on BREAST SCREENING

Breast cancer is the most common type of non-skin cancer among women in the United States. It affects more than 260,000 American women annually. Screening before there are symptoms is essential to helping doctors find and treat cancer early.

Currently the Anne and Kirk Douglas Breast Center is being utilized exclusively for screening mammography. The addition of this equipment for the new breast ultrasound suite would allow us to offer services including diagnostic mammography and breast ultrasound.

Diagnostic imaging is performed on patients that either have a screening mammogram and are asked to return for further imaging of a particular area of interest, or for patients that meet clinical criteria for advanced imaging.

Adding this technology to our Palm Springs location eliminates barriers of time and distance that often get in the way of completing this screening for many women.
