Collectors Corner

Whether it’s time to clean out the house or redecorate, Collectors Corner is the perfect solution to give back to an organization that supports Coachella Valley residents.
“We’re doing so well, we need help getting items in the store,” says Dustin Heyborne, Manager of Collectors Corner for the last six years.
When he began the position, there were many items in storage. After a restructuring of the store and pricing, Collectors Corner is now in need of rebuilding its inventory.
In 2020, Heyborne made a commitment to donate $500,000 per year to the Eisenhower Health Dolores Hope Auxiliary, which operates the not-for-profit thrift store featuring collectibles, furniture and clothing. For four years in a row, Heyborne has hit that goal and he has no plans of slowing down.
So much so, this year he marked another milestone in his tenure at the store: January’s and February’s sales marked the store’s best since 2005 (even more remarkable in comparison to two locations at that time).
Collectors Corner began as a fundraiser by the Eisenhower Medical Center Auxiliary, a group that would sell donated items, notably a classic London black cab donated by Frank Sinatra. With the donation of a piece of land on Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage, the shop opened November 15, 1973.
Collectors Corner relies heavily on volunteers - a five-to-one staff ratio - allowing for more funding to the overall donation to Eisenhower Health, which supports nursing scholarships and, for the next couple of years, programming for the memory care and child care centers under construction.
To date, Collectors Corner has donated more than $21 million to support Eisenhower programs and services.
Collectors Corner’s Top 3 items in need of donations include:
1. Clothing — men’s and women’s
2. Furniture — Drop off or free pickup available from inside your home (team of two)
3. Housewares — dishes, pots and pans, kitchen tools
Notable mention: decorative items and art
Collectors Corner regulars often shop multiple days a week, knowing that treasures are added each day.
“It can be totally different two days after you were in the store,” says Heyborne.
