Collectors Corner Turns 50!

Premier thrift store continues its mission

Collectors Corner had its start in 1970 as part of the new Eisenhower Medical Center Auxiliary.  Members began collecting quality merchandise from friends and family, and when there was a sufficient quantity, a sale and dinner party were held, raising $58,000.

In 1971, the Auxiliary hosted its second Collectors Corner party — in tents pitched on hospital grounds while construction of Eisenhower Memorial Hospital was still in progress. The party repeated the success of the prior year’s efforts, raising more than $100,000. Even Frank Sinatra donated a classic London black cab which was snapped up immediately.

Buoyed by the experience, the Auxiliary decided to make Collectors Corner a full-time operation. The permanent site of the shop, a choice parcel of land on Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage, was donated to Eisenhower Medical Center. The shop opened on November 15, 1973.

For 50 years, Collectors Corner has been the premier thrift store in the Coachella Valley.  Operated by the Eisenhower Health Dolores Hope Auxiliary, Collectors Corner is a unique not-for-profit thrift store, run by dedicated staff and volunteers. Offering fine furnishings, household items, quality clothing and elegant antiques at surprisingly low prices, Collectors Corner thrives, thanks to the community’s generosity and quality donations. All proceeds go directly to Eisenhower Health, helping to provide state-of-the-art medical equipment, nursing scholarships and funding for construction projects. The community’s donations have been essential to the growth of Eisenhower Health.

In its 50 years of operation, Collectors Corner has given nearly $20 million to Eisenhower Health. In April 2023, a check with the season’s proceeds for $500,000 was given to the health system specifically earmarked for the new Saul and Joyce Brandman Memory Care Center.

To celebrate 50 years in their Rancho Mirage location, Collectors Corner has been revitalized with new paint inside and out, new flooring and doors, new landscaping and renovated restrooms. Stop by and visit today!
