Visit with a Volunteer

Invaluable. Indispensable. Inspiring. These are just some of the words that describe the role volunteers play in Eisenhower Health’s day-to-day operations and long-term viability.

Liz Young
Liz Young, 65, isn’t a stranger to the operating room. With a history of procedures, starting at age 4 for a heart condition, she is familiar with the emotional stress that accompanies surgery, especially when it carries the weight of “open-heart surgery.” That understanding goes a long way when working with patients as an Eisenhower Health volunteer.

After open-heart surgery in January 2014 at Eisenhower, a visit by a Mended Hearts Coachella Valley volunteer made such an impact that Liz joined their ranks by June. For many years, she volunteered with Mended Hearts for one day and another at the hospital’s errand room, directing visitors, delivering flowers or taking patients to their ride home via wheelchair.
