  • Unexpected Challenges

    Emergency leads to life-threatening finding

Emergency leads to life-threatening findingMichael Larson can thank a kidney stone for likely helping save his life. Larson, a 60-year-old physician assistant from La Quinta, enjoys a physically challenging lifestyle in his off-hours. He has been hiking since he was a child and has tackled some of the most arduous mountain peaks throughout the world.

He had recently returned home from a 20,000-foot climb in Ecuador when, one night in May 2024, he was awakened by severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.

  • Giving Is Its Own Beauty

Powerhouse duo Meg and David Firestone could teach a masterclass in creating community. Creators, curators and entrepreneurs, they are as integral to the beauty industry in the desert as the hospital is

    to health care.

From watching the hospital's iconic palm trees being planted to Meg participating in fundraising as a Bob Hope Desert Classic Girl in the famed golf tournament, the Firestones have enjoyed a front-row seat to Eisenhower Health's growth from the beginning.

  • Eisenhower Health's Junior Volunteer Program

For the last 35 years, Eisenhower Health has welcomed junior volunteers to experience a hospital environment and gain real-world experience prior to entering their undergraduate education. Any high school student may apply to enter the program following freshman year.

Eisenhower Health's volunteer office will take the names of those interested in April, interview candidates in May and host orientation in June. The program - one four-to-five-hour volunteer shift a week - is completed by the end of July.

  • Five things you can do right now as part of your wellness routine

    Go for the Hue

This fall, add rich reds, blues and purples to your plate in addition to your wardrobe. Fruits and vegetables with the most vibrant colors contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber. Blueberries and blackberries contain anthocyanins; strawberries, tomatoes and beets are rich in lycopene; and dark green vegetables such as spinach, kale and broccoli are excellent sources of calcium, iron and vitamins A, C, K and B.
