"Growing up, I found myself interested in the health sciences and eventually decided on pursing medicine as a career," stated. Dr. Maughan. "I was drawn to the human connection of medicine but am also interested in research." During residency she was drawn toward infectious disease as a subspecialty because it layers over all aspects of the field. After a rotation at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Maughan was captured by infectious disease medicine and pursued a fellowship in the specialty.
"I approach my patient in a comprehensive manner," states Dr. Maughan. "I enjoy knowing and understanding my patients, their interests and lifestyle. Since I see most of my patient over the long-term, may of which have chronic conditions, it is helpful to understand their goals and priorities in life. We approach their healthcare as a team."
