After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Rice University in Houston, Texas, Dr. Shen received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He completed his internship and neurosurgery residency at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center. As part of his residency, he also spent a year at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Shen then completed a Spine Fellowship at the Semmes-Murphey Clinic at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dr. Shen is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the California Medical Association and the Riverside County Medical Society. Dr. Shen was named among America's Top Surgeons in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and Palm Springs Life named him a Top Doctor in 2005.
