Mark C. Genesen, MD

Mark Genesen, MD, is Board Certified in Gynecologic Oncology. His education, training and full-time faculty positions include Vanderbilt University, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and LAC+USC Medical Center Women’s and Children’s Hospital. His career has linked the interface between innovation and cutting-edge research realm of major university medical/cancer centers and extending the best of those services in a patient-centered environment in community hospitals.

“As a gynecologic oncologist, I am part of a cancer team that is brought together to provide patients with the best comprehensive resources and treatments,” states Dr. Genesen. “I am passionate about approaching my patients with individualized care and concern that brings healing — not only to their physical condition but also to the emotional and spiritual responses to their illness.”

From 1999 to 2008 he developed the first and only comprehensive gynecologic oncology program in the Coachella Valley that brought the best cutting-edge gynecologic oncology services to our community with collaboration and support from his partners who led the programs at Scripps, Hoag Hospital, USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Harbor-UCLA  Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. This afforded patients with the same cutting-edge clinical care and access to clinical trials close to home without having had to travel out of the valley to receive their care.

Dr. Genesen brings experience, skills, and knowledge in women’s health, oncology and surgery that uniquely positions Eisenhower Health to be able to broaden its Women's Health services and provide women the best comprehensive resources available for gynecologic cancer-related care and surgery. Dr. Genesen focuses on both minimally invasive surgery as well as radical surgical techniques and is highly skilled in using the robotic Da Vinci® Surgical System to treat gynecological cancers. More than 25 years of involvement in NCI gynecologic oncology clinical research trials allows him to provide additional opportunities for his patients to receive the most current advances in the field. More recently, he has worked collaboratively with leadership from the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, American College of Surgeons and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists on improving safe implementation of new treatments, procedures and technologies.
