  • Eisenhower Health NamedTo U.S. News & World Report 2025 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care

U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice, has named Eisenhower Health as a 2025 High Performing hospital for Maternity Care. This is the highest award a hospital can earn as part of U.S. News' Best Hospitals for Maternity Care annual study. Eisenhow

U.S. News began evaluating maternity care hospitals in 2021, rating hospitals that provide labor and delivery services and submit detailed data to the publication for analysis. Best Hospitals for Maternity Care assist expectant parents, in consultation with their prenatal care team, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity services that best meets their family's needs.

Eisenhower Health earned a High Performing designation in recognition of maternity care as measured by factors such as severe unexpected newborn complication rates, birthing-friendly practices and transparency on racial/ethnic disparities, among other measures.

  • Reverse Shoulder Replacement

Advanced implant for complex structure allows patients full recovery to get back to what they love

A longtime and passionate equestrienne, Patricia Hebert understands the risks inherent in horseback riding.

"At this age, especially, I'm very cautious when I ride," says the 86-year-old Palm Desert resident. But when she took a tumble in a nail salon of all places, she saw the painful irony in the circumstances of her fall.

"I had gone to get my nails done, stood up to wash my hands, and tripped," she relates.

"In a split second I was on the floor, landing on my right shoulder. I knew I had fractured something - I could hear it," she adds. "All those years of riding and I fall in a nail salon!"

  • Atrial Fibrillation

A difficult - and lifechanging - decision to undergo surgery

"That doesn't sound good" are not the words you want to hear when your doctor listens to your heart during a routine physical. But that's what happened when Mark Green saw his primary care physician in the San Francisco Bay Area in July of 2021.

"He performed an EKG right away and all I could think was, 'Am I having a heart attack?'" Green, then 62, recalls. "He walked the results over to a cardiologist in the same building and came right back, telling me I had to go to the emergency room now."

"I was terrified," Green continues. "They put me on a heart monitor in the ER and at first thought it was broken because my heart rate was bouncing all over the place. That's when I learned I had atrial fibrillation."

Atrial fibrillation, or AFib, is a quivering or irregular heartbeat, or arrhythmia. It can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. More than 12 million people are projected to have AFib by 2030.
Green was admitted to the hospital overnight and given medication to restore a regular heart rhythm.

  • Hit the Road

Physical and social benefits of bicycling at any age

Victor Yepello didn't really think about exercising until his 50s. At that time, he set up a home gym. A couple years later, he moved to the desert and learned of the AIDS/LifeCycle bike ride from his trainer at a local gym, went home, watched videos about the ride and two hours later signed up. It was a lofty goal for a man in his early 60s who had never before attempted 545 miles of biking from San Francisco to Los Angeles across the span of seven days, but Yepello was determined.

"You train for four to six months. You have to be committed to it," says Yepello. "It's pretty hard work and grueling doing that seven-day ride, but it's also a hell of a lot of fun."

Yepello has since completed three rides (2009, 2010 and 2013) and also participated as a roadie performing bicycle maintenance.
