After Dr. Dy received her medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, she continued her medical training by completing a residency program in Internal Medicine at Harlem Hospital, New York, New York. She then completed her fellowship in Hematology-Oncology at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital in New York. After completing her residency, she served as a staff physician at Crossroads Cancer Center in Illinois.
As a child, Dr. Dy helped care for her grandmother during her treatment for colon cancer. This experience, along with several family members being physicians, influenced her decision to go to medical school. “I saw from different perspectives the influence and impact a physician can have on a patient and their family,” states Dr. Dy. “Going into medicine was a natural path for me.” Her older brother is a Hematology-Oncology specialist, which played a large part in Dr. Dy pursuing hematology-oncology as a specialty. “I had the good fortune to practice with my brother for several years after finishing my fellowship.”
In her interactions with patients, Dr. Dy sees herself as part of a team, along with the patient, support services and family members. “My role is to educate and provide information regarding best options for treatment and we work together to create a health plan that will bring healing to the patient,” states Dr. Dy.
