Management of Chronic Conditions
Eisenhower Gastroenterology Specialty Medical Clinic helps patients ages 18 and above manage chronic conditions, including:
- Crohn’s disease. This inflammatory disease of the bowel can be painful and debilitating. Symptoms may include severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, abdominal pain, and malnutrition. While Crohn’s disease is a chronic condition for which there is no known cure, a variety of therapies are available to treat and manage the symptoms.
- Ulcerative colitis is a progressive inflammatory bowel disease which causes swelling and sores in the large intestine and rectum. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic condition, but the symptoms can be treated, and some patients are able to achieve long-term remission.
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder of the large intestine, or colon. The symptoms of IBS may include abdominal pain, cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation. Unlike ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, IBS does not lead to changes in bowel tissue or increase cancer risk. IBS is a chronic condition but it can generally be managed through diet and lifestyle changes, medications, and stress reduction.
