Services We Offer
The Eisenhower Stroke Center combines the services of the Tennity Emergency Department, Interventional Radiology, Neurosurgery, Rehabilitation, and the Eisenhower Neuroscience Institute Outpatient Stroke Clinic.
Tennity Emergency Department
Patients receive their initial treatment in the Tennity Emergency Department, where the Stroke Activation Process begins. The 44,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility features 42 treatment areas. Designed to create a safe, healing environment for patients and families with private rooms.
Interventional Radiology
Eisenhower Radiology Department uses state-of-the art equipment to provide Eisenhower patients with the best in diagnostic and treatment care procedures. Eisenhower's Interventional Radiology Lab (IRL) is composed of three teams that include highly-skilled physicians, nurses and radiology technicians. Through advanced technology, and with the use of image guidance, our physicians are able to provide patients with minimally invasive, targeted treatments.
- IRL Technology in Stroke Treatment:
- Accurate Diagnosis
- Retrieval of a Clot
- Direct Thrombolysis of a Clot
Even complex procedures that would normally involve invasive surgery may often be managed in IRL. The procedure called atherectomy is an effective approach to the removal of plaque, which can open arteries and allow for improved blood flow. Doctors can seamlessly place a carotid stent with assist of angioplasty for treatment of narrowing carotid arteries, while avoiding prolonged surgery. It is effective for repairing brain aneurysms with coils that are guided and deployed using a combination of vascular catheters, wires and real-time imaging.
Neurosurgery
Neurosurgery at the Eisenhower Neuroscience Institute is dedicated to providing leading edge, compassionate clinical care for a full range of spine, brain and nerve disorders. Stroke related procedures we provide include:
- Craniotomy - Craniotomy is an operation that involves removing a piece of bone from the skull (cranium) to provide access to the brain and its surrounding structures.
- Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM) - AVM is an abnormal connection between arteries & veins.
- Brain Aneurysms - Approximately 80-90% of non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhages (spontaneous bleed in the subarachnoid space of the brain) is due to aneurysm rupture.
Rehabilitation
Eisenhower believes in specialized care for the neurologically impaired patient and is proud to employ Certified Stroke Rehabilitation Specialists. Neurological conditions affect each patient individually with a wide range of presenting symptoms, which is why patient is evaluated and set up on a treatment program to address their unique needs.
