What to Bring
Remembering what to bring to the hospital when your contractions are coming every five minutes is a daunting task. You never know when your baby might decide to be born, so it’s a good idea to pack a suitcase in advance.
Supplies for Mom
Please note that expectant mothers should NOT bring their prescription medications with them to the hospital — all prescription medications will be provided by the hospital’s inpatient pharmacy
- Clothes: Including socks, PJs, slippers and robe; nursing bra or tight sports bra if not nursing; comfy lounge clothes
- Personal Toiletries
- Food: Snacks, favorite drinks, light food
- Pillows: Many people like to bring their own — use recognizable pillowcases so your pillows don’t get mixed up with ours
- Labor Comforts: Hair ties, lip balm (Tiger Balm is good for clearing a stuffy nose, common during labor
- Entertainment: iPod or music playing device; music; books; camera; cell phone; chargers; laptop (the Medical Center has free Wi-Fi)
- Inspiration: If a special memento or a photo of a beloved person or favorite place is inspiring to you, bring it along, but make sure anything you bring is replaceable
Supplies for Partner
- Clothes: Change of clothes, pajamas, slippers
- Personal Toiletries
- Medications
The hospital only provides medication for patients, so partners accompanying the laboring mom should bring along any medications needed
Supplies for Baby
- Clothes: Going home clothes and other outfits if desired; hat and socks
- Car Seat: Read the instructions and do a practice run ahead of time
