Orthopedics Hip

It can begin with a small problem… yet, if you’re reading this, your hip pain has probably progressed at least to the “worrisome stage” that might benefit from a hip specialist taking a look.

The good news is, often with the help of the expertise and guidance of hip specialists, conservative hip pain treatment can give you relief and get you back to your normal life. Even better news is that you may even learn something that will help to prevent a reoccurrence of the problem. That’s the goal - get your hip pain treated early, before it manifests into something more difficult to correct.

Yet sometimes more advanced procedures and treatments are needed to get you back to an active life, free of hip pain. And, accidents can happen that immediately put you in need of more advanced hip procedures. Degeneration over time that defies the help of conservative measures may also mean that advanced procedures are finally necessary. These reasons and more may mean it’s time to look at more advanced procedures, such as hip replacement surgery, partial hip replacement for hip fractures, arthroscopic hip treatment or even revision hip replacement. The good news? They work.

Total Joint Replacement Center of Excellence

Providing Nationally Recognized Joint Replacement Care Right Here in the Desert

Thanks to recent technological developments, the replacement of knee, hip, shoulder, wrist and ankle joints has become routine procedure. Surgeons utilize minimally invasive and robotic approaches when appropriate. Our physicians also perform complicated revision surgery, which involves removing failed implants and reconstruction of the joint. Eisenhower is actively involved in research and development of improved implant materials and techniques.

Sometimes more advanced knee procedures from knee surgeons are required to manage the pain and return patients to a good quality of daily living activity. We’re proud to report that U.S. News and World Report has recognized Eisenhower Medical Center as High Performing in Knee Replacement — a true honor and testimony to the high level of professionalism our knee specialists embody.

Robotics In Joint Replacement

Eisenhower Health is the first hospital in Riverside County and one of only five hospitals in the country to add a fourth Mako SmartRobotics™ system by Stryker to its arsenal of orthopedic surgical tools. This technological advancement in joint replacement surgery transforms the way total knee, partial knee and total hip replacements are performed, by helping surgeons know more and cut less.

Mako SmartRobotics™ combines three key components, 3D CT-based planning, AccuStopTM haptic technology and insightful data analytics, into one platform that has shown better outcomes for total knee, total hip and partial knee patients. Contact us today to see if you’re a candidate for a robotic total joint replacement!

Hip-related Conditions That We Treat

While the list of hip problems treated at Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center is long, below are just some of the more common hip-related concerns that we treat.

  • Hip Injuries — hip fractures, hip sprains, hip labral tears, hernias
  • Hip Arthritis — hip osteoarthritis, degenerative arthritis, septic hip arthritis
  • Hip Anatomy — sciatica, hip dysplasia, snapping hip syndrome
  • Hip Conditions — hip bursitis, hip tendonitis, hip osteonecrosis, hip impingement

The important thing to bear in mind is that seeking professional medical help from a hip specialist early in the process can pay significant dividends for you, as a patient. A few of those dividends include improved recovery time, training in preventive measures and spotting ancillary issues. If you’ve had an accident involving your hip, hip injury or a painful hip area that isn’t responding to at-home treatment, we encourage you to make an appointment today.

Advanced Hip Procedures

Total Hip Replacement

If non-surgical, conservative treatment options have failed to relieve hip pain symptoms and your quality of life is negatively impacted, hip replacement surgery may be an option to restore your quality of life and enable you to resume normal daily living activities.

Conditions that may lead to hip replacement include: severe hip osteoarthritis, debilitating hip pain that limits daily activities, pain that occurs at rest or wakens you at night, chronic unrelieved hip inflammation and swelling, or inability to obtain pain relief from a range of conservative treatment measures.

Total hip replacement is a surgical procedure in which the damaged or worn out hip joint surfaces are replaced with artificial parts. A feature of hip replacement surgery is that rehabilitation begins immediately after surgery; you will be walking within 24 hours of the surgery.

Arthroscopic Hip Treatment

While hip arthroscopy is used for a wide range of hip-related problems, the most common problems where hip arthroscopy is used for diagnosis and treatment are sports-related injuries to the labrum.

Hip arthroscopy is a minimally invasive that uses an arthroscope camera to identify the source of the problem. Surgical incisions are less than one to two centimeters. This results in less pain, joint stiffness and reduced recovery time. Most patients are off of pain medicine in two to three days after surgery.

Hip Revision Surgery

Hip revision surgery is used to replace artificial hip joints that have worn out over time or become damaged. The typical life of an artificial hip is 10 to 15 years, fluctuating based on the patient’s activity level.
