The procedure was led by Board Certified interventional cardiologist Praveen Panguluri, MD, and assisted by Andrew Frutkin, MD, also Board Certified in interventional cardiology - both part of Eisenhower’s highly experienced team with Eisenhower Desert Cardiology Center.
The TriClip™ Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) system is designed to treat patients with tricuspid valve regurgitation, a condition where the valve between the right atrium and right ventricle fails to close properly, causing blood to leak backward. Left untreated, the condition can lead to debilitating symptoms including fatigue, swelling, and shortness of breath. Until recently, patients who were not candidates for open-heart surgery had limited treatment options.
“This is a game changer for patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation who have been suffering without viable solutions,” says Dr. Panguluri. “With the TriClip, we can now offer relief through a minimally invasive procedure that shortens recovery time and dramatically improves quality of life.”
The successful procedure at Eisenhower Health underscores the organization’s continued commitment to providing advanced cardiovascular care close to home - offering patients in the Coachella Valley access to leading-edge treatments typically available only in major metropolitan areas.
“Bringing this level of innovation to our community is part of our mission to improve health through excellence, compassion, and state-of-the-art care,” says Scott Strech, RN, BSN, MBA, Chief Administrative Officer/Administrator, Cardiovascular Services, Eisenhower Health.
Tricuspid regurgitation affects more than 1.6 million Americans, yet treatment options have remained limited due to the complexity of the valve’s location and the high-risk profile of many patients. The TriClip system, developed by Abbott, represents one of the most promising solutions available today for non-surgical candidates.
